OUR WHOLE HERD WAS TESTED IN MAY 2011 AND NEGATIVE FOR CAE, JOHNES, TB, AND BRUCELLOSIS HOME OF APACHE DOWNS FARM A LITTLE ABOUT US: Hello and Welcome to our website ! My name is Cheryl and I am the owner of Apache Downs Farm along with my daughter Brianna. We both raise and breed Nigerian Dwarfs and Lamancha goats for show and milk production. Our farm is a 10-acre working farm located in Southern New Jersey just off of Route 55. Our farm is home to horses, Rhode Island Red chickens, Muscovy Ducks, Nigerian Dwarf & Lamancha Goats, and Guinea Hens. Our venture started back in 2004 when we took a liking to the idea of farm life and providing/growing our own resources here on the farm. A beautiful garden was planted with a huge variety of vegetables and fruit consisting of Asparagus, several pepper varieties, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, potatoes, beans, strawberries, eggplant, watermelon, cantelope, squash, zucchini, spinach, etc. and then we purchased some chickens for fresh farm eggs, and some Muscovy Ducks and Guinea fowl to help with the pests that come with gardening. Then we came across those tiny powerhouse milkers called Nigerian Dwarfs and we quickly fell in love. Much study and thought was put into the purchase of these beautiful animals from care to breeding as well as production since our main goal was fresh milk. We only wanted stock from top producers and top production lines and found that many of those lines were available locally here on the east coast… so we bought ourselves a few. Needless to say we are up to a herd of 20 here on the farm, 17 does & 3 sires, and still very much in love with our venture. As I stated, we wanted the fresh milk and have really enjoyed the benefits of that so much so we have ventured into making yogurt, fresh churned butter, goat milk fudge, ice cream, and cheeses….oh and of course there is nothing like a tall glass of fresh ice cold goat milk ! ….YUMMM. But we have found that we still needed more milk so we decided to purchase more goats of the Lamancha breed to help supplement our milk supply….we are very excited about these girls – Avery, Sophie, and Razz- since their Dam’s are high producers of over 15lbs of milk a day ! So our venture continues as we are now entering 2011 and our 6th year breeding and we look forward to helping you in your venture. We are fully committed to providing you with happy and healthy family pets, milkers, or show stock as well as a wonderful experience. Apache Downs is registered with the American Goat Society and some animals are dual registered with ADGA as well. We test all goats over 6mths of age annually for CAE & JOHNES and we take pride in our Biosecurity practices here to provide you with disease free animals. Click HERE to view our latest testing results. No animal enters our herd without having negative testing results and any goat purchased out of state is also tested for TB and Brucellosis. All our testing has been negative since we started and we will continue our testing each year to insure a healthy herd. My daughter and I were both involved in the Gloucester County 4H goat club for several years, we are members of AGS-ADGA-Nigerian Unlimited, and we love to travel the show circuit to show our stock. We have invested a lot of time and research in choosing our foundation stock for Apache Downs Farm and believe we have acquired some excellent Nigerians & Lamanchas for our breeding program. In our research we focused on confirmation and strong dairy character as well as milk production. We were particular to confirmation of the top line, width and mammary attachment, rear angle, legs, and only purchased from disease free herds. For our breeding program we researched many Dams & Sires and have chosen from only those with excellent confirmation whose traits are proven in the breeding process, milk pail, as well as the show ring. Many thanks to Pocket Sized Goats, Noah’s Acre Farm, God’s Love Farm, Laurel Haven Farm, Kaapio Acres Farm, Wrangleboro Farm, Moonspinner Farm, Aquarius Farm, Dalton’s Way, and Dickson’s Brokenharrow Ranch for their support and services for my breeding program. We have some outstanding lines in milk production in our herd including Caesar’s Villa, Gay-Mor, 4 Fun, Rosasharn, Buttin’ Heads, Flat Rocks, Brush Creek, Doe-sy-Doe, and Lost Valley to name a few. Our main focus in breeding is mammary and longevity so we match up our girls to bucks we think will help to improve the breed. Our goal is milk, and a strong hardy doe with great depth in barrel and strong mammary attachment is very important to us. We only keep bucks out of our top producers with good attachment and great confirmation…we wouldn’t want anything less for you, so we are very dedicated in providing you with only the best of our stock for breeding. All the rest are sold as pets. Hopefully you will enjoy our site, the pictures, and will find the info and references we provide helpful to you. If you ever have any questions, concerns, or want more pictures or info please contact us and we would be happy to provide that for you. We love what we do and we want you to also…so we are happy to help, guide you in the right direction, or set up a visit to the farm for you to see what we have to offer. So have fun, navigate away !!! …and please give us a call (215 837-2188) if you have interest in anything we have to offer. Have a great day ! Cheryl & Brianna Coughlin
